St Louis, MO’s Fat Transfer – Safe and Insured
Our bodies are at our best when we are young. As time passes by, it starts to age. The pace at which this will be evident on the face or on the body depends on other factors, like genetics, habits, health, and diet. As a result, breasts may sag, buttocks lose their firmness, and cheeks become sunken. Just like most people in the country, men and women in St. Louis, MO care about how they look because it makes them feel good and confident about themselves, too.
While some look young effortlessly, others need to exert extra effort when it comes to diet, exercise, and minimizing stress. However, it does not work for everyone. We at New Improved Body understand this and we are here to provide you with a sound solution: Fat Transfer.
What is Fat Transfer?
Fat Transfer is a cosmetic procedure that naturally enhances areas of the face and body that have deflated due to age, stress, and other relative causes. It is safer and less invasive than other types of procedure that makes use of synthetic materials. Excess fat from other areas of the body is extracted and transferred to the deflated part, making it firm again. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone, really. Fat is removed from full areas and transferred to areas that need to be full and robust.
Where Can it be Done?
While it is a safe and natural method for regaining fullness, not everyone is eligible for a Fat Transfer. This procedure can be done on the following:
- Sunken cheeks or lack of fullness in the face
- Laugh lines
- Thin lips
- Sagging breasts
- Loss of volume in buttocks area
- Wrinkled hands
- Pockmarks caused by chickenpox, acne, or the like.
- Marks from other cosmetic procedures
Fat Transfer Options
In a nutshell, Fat Transfer is the transfer of extracted fat from one area to another area that needs to look and feel plump and firm. It can be done in various parts of the body and, while the procedure for all areas are basically the same, here is a look at how the results for each would be like:
Breasts – Using your own fat to lift breasts and modestly add to its size is a highly recommended option. First of all, it involves natural substances, thus, eliminating any possibilities of infection. The results look and feel natural, too.
Face – Fat transferred to delicate areas of the face, like the cheeks, can help stretch out the skin, thus, smoothing out any wrinkle that has developed. Fat contains a lot of stem cells that can help repair the skin where it is injected. It can also be injected into lips, making it fuller and plumper.
Scars and Marks – Scars and marks caused by acne, infections, or previous surgeries can cause unpleasant depressions. Injecting fat in areas that have these will help fill in the depressions and even out the skin, reducing the marks enough to be less or not noticeable at all.
Buttocks – Those who do not have full or evenly-shaped buttocks can now have one, thanks to fat transfer. We highly recommend doing a butt lift at the same time as transferring fat to lift up sagging buttocks.
Hands – Similar to facial fat transfer, the stem cell content of the fat helps rejuvenate the skin, smoothing out wrinkles and making them look younger. It also adds volume to joints and reduces the visibility of large veins.
If you ever find yourself unqualified for a fat transfer, there are other alternative treatments that could provide similar results but may not increase volume effectively as fat transfer does.
Botox – This injection of botulinum toxin on the face helps smoothen the face through muscle immobilization.
Laser Therapy – Laser is also effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the skin, be it on the face or hands.
Ultherapy – This therapy involves stimulating the production of collagen in the skin, great for facelifts and repairing the skin.
Breast and Buttock Augmentation – While fat transfer can increase size modestly, augmentation can produce a bigger increase in size.
Consultation: What to Expect
Meeting with the doctor for a consultation is highly recommended before deciding on a procedure. The doctor would explain all the things involved in Fat Transfer, from prep all the way to the recovery phase. Your health is assessed through a full exam and the area that would receive treatment is assessed. This is the best time to acquire the information you need to help you come to a decision.
Fat Transfer Procedure
It typically takes two to three hours for the entire procedure to be completed. Depending on the type of fat transfer, the patient’s body type, and how extensive the transfer is, sedatives and local or general anesthesia will be used. Liposuction, which is the process of extracting fat, is done on a full area, making sure that incisions are done in a hidden part of the body. The scar is often very small and subtle and may fade over time. The extracted fat is transferred to the areas that need more volume. When the transfer is done, incisions are sutured and dressed to eliminate infections. Patients can undergo the procedure and be sent home the same day.
Patients that undergo a Fat Transfer procedure can usually go back to work and do strenuous activities in a week or two. This, however, will depend on how extensive the procedure was and the state of the patient’s health. We often create custom instructions for each patient that should be strictly followed during the recovery stage.
Although minimally invasive, patients will experience bruising, swelling, and tenderness in the involved areas. Physical activities must be avoided or limited for the meantime. Ice packs can relieve swelling but avoid alcohol or the intake of Aspirin. Patients are required to come in on the 5th or 7th day after the procedure so we can do a follow-up check to examine the treated areas, check on the recovery process, and to provide additional instructions or recommendations, whichever is necessary.
Fat Transfer Cost
The overall costs vary on how extensive the procedure is, how many areas are involved, and any other procedure that may be done along with the fat transfer.
